FICTIONAL CASE

ABOUT THE COMMITTEE

The MUNLawS 2026 Conference will host a simulation of proceedings before the Court of Conciliation and Arbitration of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

Established under the Convention on Conciliation and Arbitration within the OSCE, adopted in 1992, the Court provides participating States with a mechanism for the peaceful settlement of disputes. Based in Geneva, the Court may facilitate the resolution of disputes through conciliation proceedings or, where the parties have accepted its jurisdiction, through binding arbitration.

The Court is composed of conciliators and arbitrators designated by the States Parties to the Convention. Conciliation commissions assist parties in reaching an amicable settlement by examining the dispute and proposing terms of resolution, while arbitral tribunals render legally binding awards based on international law and the commitments undertaken within the OSCE framework.

Proceedings before the Court are founded upon the consent of the States concerned. States may submit disputes to conciliation or arbitration through special agreements, declarations accepting the Court's jurisdiction, or other arrangements provided for under the Convention.

Participants at the MUNLawS 2026 Conference may act in the role of representatives of the disputing States, conciliators, arbitrators, or members of the Court's Registry, depending on the format of the simulation.
