About the Conference
The second MUNLawS Conference was held at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia between 26th and 29th September 2014. Due to its strategic geographical position, Slovenia has always represented a crossroads of ways, ideas and cultures. The meeting point of the East and the West, bringing together the North and the South, attracting visitors from the European Union, as well as the Balkans, the MUNLawS conference was attended by university delegates from Europe, Australia, China and Afghanistan. The multicultural background of the participants enabled them to present different views on the discussed themes.
The primary objective of the MUNLawS 2014 Conference was to offer its participants a wide range of topics to discuss in order to widen their perspective and knowledge about the topical issues in the international community and the way international organizations, such as NATO and the United Nations, handle them. We feel we were successful in reaching the objectives of our project as the delegates showed a high level of knowledge and understanding of the designated topics and the importance of collaboration while resolving common issues and achieving collective goals.
Overall, the four committees - NATO, the International Court of Justice, the Security Council and the World Bank Committee- have passed 2 communiqués, 4 resolutions, a news release and a judgment.
The keynote speakers at the Opening Ceremony were major Nataša Zorman, member of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Deputy Contingent Commander of ISAF and KFOR; and Mr. Borut Pahor, President of the Republic of Slovenia that delivered his speech via video conference, as he was in New York delivering a speech at the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly General debate on the day of the Opening ceremony.
The Conference was supported by NATO's Public Diplomacy Division.
